Congratulations Ruth Hill Elementary

Monday, November 25th

The 25 4th and 5th graders of the Lunch Pad Library Heroes created bedtime comfort bags for kids who need it most. Supplies are collected, donated or hand-made by the students and given to kids in the community who have experienced crises such as house fires, homelessness, abuse, neglect, separation from parents, or death of a loved one. Items include a blanket and stuffed animal, hygenic goods, a bedtime story, and a hand-drawn card from another kid.

4 years ago, Ruth Hill Elementary was labelled as a ‘chronically failing school’ and students are often on the receiving end of community projects. Many students know what it’s like to struggle with housing issues, poverty, or family dynamics. They frequently have to put themselves and their siblings to bed.

They launched a 16 day challenge to create 100 bedtime bags to comfort kids 5-8.

They reached out to the community for donations, and created lavender eye-pillows to sell for fundraising as well.

From all of us at Jenn and Friends and Star 94.1, we would like to congratulate Anne Graner and Ruth Hill Elementary, our 2019 Giveback Giveawy winners.
