January 19, 2019

At its January 17th meeting, the Fulton County School Board adopted calendars for the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years.

Highlights of both calendars include:

  • A later start date in August, a short break in October and a full-week break in November at the Thanksgiving holiday;
  • First semester ends before the two-week winter break in late December/early January;
  • Spring Break remains the first full week of April;
  • Professional development and teacher workdays are dispersed throughout the year; and
  • Election Day is again a teacher workday

For the 2019-2020 calendar, the first day of school is now August 12th, with the last day being May 22nd, 2020.

For the 2020-2021 calendar, the first day of school is August 10th and the last day is May 26th, 2021. Each school year ends prior to Memorial Day.

The total number of student days for both calendars is 178.  Spring Break and Thanksgiving holidays align with other metro districts and a traditional Winter Break is included.

Schools will be allowed to request up to four professional development days based on the full release day criteria by school cluster.

Also, Fulton County Schools will be launching a newly designed website set to launch this week on January 23, 2019.  Their redesigned website will use the same web address: www.fultonschools.org and will include the following features:

  • Responsive Design: The site is compatible on all mobile devices.
  • Global Icons and "I Want To..." Menu:  A new feature located on every page throughout the site which allows instant discovery of popular pages.
  • Intuitive Calendar:  The new iCal link allows visitors to add dates and meetings to personal calendars and also features a “print” option.  Calendars can also be viewed in different formats, by month or day, or as a list.  The PDF versions of the school calendar and testing calendars are available as well.
  • ADA Compliance: All content now meets the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which ensures our digital platform accommodates people with disabilities.

Keep in mind guys, as with any website redesign, some of their pages will have new addresses. This means pages that you may have bookmarked previously may not work. You should be able to easily find the new location of your favorite pages and update your bookmarks. If you need assistance, web support contact information will be available at the bottom of every one of their pages.
