Selena Gomez Says Internet Trolls Were 'Attacking' Her for Gaining Weight

November 12, 2019

Selena Gomez has been battling health issues for some time now, and if there’s one part of the whole thing that’s been unbearable, it’s when people get after her about her weight.

According to E! News, between battling Lupus, high blood pressure, and mental health struggles, Gomez has had quite a go of it all. In a recent interview with Giving Back Generation, Gomez has revealed that having Lupus has had a direct effect on her weight, which makes life in the public eye pretty difficult.

According to the songstress, taking the appropriate medications for her various ailments has led to fluctuations in her weight. The fluctuations can be different based on many factors. “It depends even on the month, to be honest, so for me, I really noticed when people started attacking me for that,” she said.

“That got to me big time. That really messed me up for a bit,” she continued.

The fluctuations with her weight and ruthless fans’ reactions to her body led to her to taking a step back from social media. Now, she hardly looks at her timeline. “I’m very happy with living my life and being present,” she says of the step back from the platforms.

Gomez’s message rings loud and clear, and she hopes to be a voice of reason for other girls growing up with similar body image issues, “demolished by an image that they’re trying to chase.”

But it’s not as easy as it sounds for the “Lose You to Love Me” singer. “I get it. I look at other people’s pages – or I used to – and I’d be like ‘Okay, I need to fix myself.’” Gomez continues to overcome struggles with the help of her faith and her friends.
