Over a thousand people converged on Atlanta last year for the award winning Dames and Dregs Beer + Festival. This weekend, The Masquerade will play host to the second annual beer festival, and the 2019 version promises to amp up the experience.

Dames and Dregs not only celebrates women and beer, but spotlights "female inclusion in the craft beer industry."

“It’s a festival that’s more than the beer,” Rebecca Royster, the event’s co-founder explained in a press release. “It’s about celebrating beer professionals who are also women.”

Head to The Masquerade from 1-6 p.m. Saturday to experience more than 40 of the country’s leading female-owned and staffed breweries and spirits. You can enjoy two stages with musical performances, an arts market, a food market, a gaming area, a live-art wall and more.

The festival will also spark conversation focused on women and beer. Four panels will discuss:

  • Beer + Brewing
  • Business + Culture
  • Community + Activism
  • Science + Sustainability

The Decatur BBQ Blues & Bluegrass Festival returns for its 19th year and Monday Night Brewing is one of the sponsors that will be enjoying the sights, sounds and great food. Around 6,000 hungry festival goers are expected at Legacy Park in Decatur from 1-9 p.m. on Saturday.

Outside of the events this weekend, there are a number of new beers dropping:

When you experiment by aging an imperial stout in a bourbon barrel and then age it more in a port barrel the outcome is Creature Comforts' Curious No. 13 at 13.9 percent ABV. You can taste it on Saturday at noon. But that’s not the only new brew from this Athens powerhouse. Creature Comforts also collaborated with 1000 Faces Coffee to come up with Awaken, My Love, a 12 percent imperial stout with coffee, cinnamon and lactose. This one is also available at noon on Saturday.

Creature Comforts also has a beer available Friday in their tasting room. You can buy four-pack, 16-ounce cans of Moon Tree, an “easy drinking pale ale” starting at 1 p.m.

Sticking with Friday releases, Reformation Brewery has Humble Pils available on Friday at the brewery only. It’s a 4.6 percent ABV golden German-style Pilsner.

More Oktoberfest love is hitting Atlanta with the Tucktoberfest Marzen Lager from Tucker Brewing Company. They’re releasing it Friday night and buying a brew gets you a raffle ticket to win a free Tucktoberfest ticket.

Atlanta Brewing Company’s new Goseanna will be released Friday. It’s a kettle sour with strawberry and basil and will be available at 4 p.m. in the taproom in 16-ounce cans and draft.

I was introduced to oatmeal stouts early in my craft beer awakening and have been a fan since. Slow Pour Brewing Company in Lawrenceville will release Until It Sleeps on Friday, a 5 percent ABV offering with “notes of smooth milk chocolate and a light touch of smoke.”

In honor of Dames and Dregs Beer + Festival Saturday, the women of Monday Night Brewing created Spilling Tea, a golden sour ale with jasmine tea. You can taste it at Masquerade at the festival or, please, tell us how it was if you were at Boxcar Wednesday for their preview.

Lady Loral was also previewed at Boxcar Wednesday. This Eventide Brewing Grisette is a low-alcohol Belgian with orange zest to highlight the citrus notes from the Loral hops. If you missed the preview, you’ll be able to find Lady Loral at Dames and Dregs Beer + Festival Saturday.

Three Taverns Brewery is bringing back six-pack cans of Cream Weaver from their Sour Asylum series. It’s a tangerine, vanilla and cream sour ale. Three Taverns also brewed a special beer for Dames and Dregs called Doyenne, which is French for respected woman. It's a 6 percent rustic saison open-fermented "in our Wooden Vat with a late addition of hibiscus and ginger."

Hey Premier League fans, Tucker Brewing is hosting Premier League Saturdays every week of the EPL season. The fun starts at 10 a.m. and in addition to great beer available, donuts and coffee from Donut City in Tucker will be available.
