Atlanta United wins MLS Eastern Conference Championship

The Five Stripes will play for the MLS Cup HERE December 8th

November 29, 2018

A week from Saturday, Atlanta United can equal - in their second ever season - what the Falcons, Hawks and Braves have managed to do just once (combined) in 52 years: win their league's ultimate title. United needed only to not lose by 3 or more against the New York Red Bulls, and only took a 1-0 game loss tonight to win the MLS Eastern Conference by a 3-1 aggregate goals score. Their 3-0 win last Sunday at home made clinching tonight a virtual lock.

Now, the "Five Stripes" can win Atlanta's first league title since 1995, and only the city's second, overall, Saturday, December 8th when they host either Sporting Kansas City or the Portland Timbers, who play later tonight. The MLS Cup will be played inside Mercedes Benz Stadium, virtually assuring that this year's championship game will set an all-time MLS Cup attendance record set in 2002.
